Police have charged a woman with attempted murder after someone was deliberately pushed into the path of on oncoming CTrain. Police describe the act as random. “At approximately 2:30 p.m. (on Thursday), a man and a woman were waiting on the east side of the Victoria Park/Stampede CTrain platform for a northbound train,” Staff Sgt. Andrew Wilkinson said.

He said as the train was arriving at the station, the suspect allegedly approached the woman, a person with disabilities in her 60s, from behind and pushed her onto the train tracks.

The CTrain driver was able to stop the train before reaching the victim.

“The train was clearly approaching and the driver managed to react very quickly and brake,” Wilkinson said.

The victim was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition, where she remains in critical condition.

“She will have life-changing injuries,” Wilkinson said.

A Calgary Transit peace officer arrested the suspect at the scene.

Wilkinson described the incident as “absolutely random and totally unprovoked.”

Stephanie Favel, 35, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and breach of probation.
