- BILL KAUFMANN

City police have charged one of their officers with assaulting a man who had been arrested.

On March 24, 2016, police say a man who had been detained and charged following a complaint in the city ’s downtown area had been taken to the CPS arrest processing section.

It was there that the man was allegedly assaulted by a police officer.

The charge comes after a review by the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor’s office.

Twenty-one-year veteran Const. David Pizzolato has been charged with one count of assault and placed on a 30-day administrative leave while his situation is reviewed.

The CPS said that Pizzolato will receive “all available supports” from the force during the court process.
