Sadly on the sidelines of Tuesday’s plebiscite

-

My wife and I have just moved back to Calgary. Discovering we needed three-months residence before voting in Alberta, we were saddened we could not take part in the Olympic debate.

We lived through the 1988 Winter Olympics and enjoyed it immensely. The 1980s were not exactly a time of great prosperity in Alberta but the Olympics were a huge success because of the great people running it: Ralph Klein and company did us up fine. We were the closest host ever to breaking even on expenses, and the untold benefits continue to this day. The 2010 Vancouver Olympics did even better, making a small profit, with benefits going forward.

We have faith that this city is awash with volunteers and the brain power to succeed once more. Our votes would have been a very large Yes.
