One dead in downtown Lethbridge apartment fire

A fire in a downtown Lethbridge apartment building has left one person dead.

Lethbridge fire crews responded to an alarm at approximately 4:23 a.m. Saturday at the Landmark building along the 500 block of 6th Street S., according to a police news release.

The fire was contained to one unit, where the body of one person was found.

The fire was extinguished, but multiple occupants were forced to evacuate due to extensive smoke. They have since been allowed to return.

No other injuries were reported. Lethbridge police and fire crews are investigating.
