Vets suffer amid frivolity of 2026

-

Your Nov. 8 edition featured 2026 CEO Mary Moran en route to an advance polling station. How ironic that she was wearing a poppy symbolizing support for our veterans which contrasted with a letter to the editor that same day regarding the new Veterans Food Bank.

Veterans are struggling and, yet, Calgarians are contemplating spending $3 billion on a quest for Olympic glory. Sadly, far too many Canadians would rather gloat about the potential successes of our Olympic athletes rather than focus on our failure to properly take care of all kinds of needy Canadians, including our veterans. Where’s our sense of priorities?

Those who can afford to dream big do so, those who can’t afford to share that dream continue to suffer. Gilles Rivard, Calgary
