University playoffs ignored by TV news

-

I write this with the hope that someone will shed some light on the lack of televised coverage of university sports.

I refer to the recent western Canadian University football Hardy Cup final in McMahon Stadium on Nov. 10. It was the highlight game of the year between the University of Calgary Dinos and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

If ever there was a western Canadian flavour to amateur sport, this was the event. Regrettably, there was no TV or radio coverage. (The Herald and Sun advanced and covered the game). Instead, we were treated to full coverage of a U.S. college-football game between Florida and South Carolina.

Many of us are left with the distinct belief that decisions are made by central Canadian programmers who are quite comfortable ignoring the West. If true, that is a sad overview of Canadian unity. Robert Head, Cochrane
