Nov. 11, 1918, was a Day of jubilation
For decades, my husband and I have attended Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Jubilee Auditorium. It is most important to us having grown up in the aftermath of the Second World War in Holland. We always left impressed and moved.
With the 100-year commemoration of the Armistice, we expected a spectacular celebration, but we left strangely dissatisfied.
Mayor Nenshi was eloquent as usual, the HMCS Naval Band was good; the prayer fine, but the podium’s backdrop scene was dark, gloomy and depressing.
You would wish a ray of light and some added colour coming through that black window. After all Nov. 11, 1918, was a day of jubilation.
