BIGHILL’S HEALTH A BIG QUESTION
The health of Blue Bombers middle linebacker Adam Bighill remains in question going into Sunday’s CFL West Final in Calgary.
Bighill took part in the week’s first practice Wednesday, but with a heavily-protected left hand that appeared to have a cast on it.
The quarterback of the Winnipeg defence and the team nominee for the Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive Player awards, Bighill said he’ll play on Sunday.
But he kept his left hand buried in his jacket pocket for his entire media scrum and on his way out of the room.
“I’m ready to go,” he said. “No issues.”
Bighill missed the last few minutes of Sunday’s West semifinal win in Saskatchewan.
If he plays with a damaged hand, it raises questions about his ability to wrap up on tackles, not to mention how he’d be able to handle possible interceptions or fumble recoveries.
“There isn’t a guy in the league who doesn’t get a nick here and there throughout the season,” Bighill said.
“Especially every game you’re gonna walk out with something. But yeah, I’m good to go and excited to get on the field Sunday.
“Your healthiest day in this football season is the day before training camp started. That’s the day you’re 100 per cent and as soon as training camp starts, you’re never going to be that healthy again.”
