Subaru recalls affect thousands of vehicles

-

Subaru is recalling a large swath of its models over two separate defects that together affect 33,324 cars sold in Canada. The first defect concerns the low-fuel warning light on the dashboard not coming on when it should, and the digital driving-range indicator showing some kilometres left when the gas tank is empty, according to Automotive News Canada. The low-fuel light will eventually illuminate, but driving by the range indicator could see the vehicle run out of fuel and stall on the road. Some 14,160 Legacy sedans and Outback SUVs from model year 2018 are affected. Subaru is warning drivers to keep their tanks topped up as a precaution until their vehicle’s software is updated. The second defect involves the possibility of the engine valve springs fracturing, causing engine failures or a stalled engine that won’t restart. That recall affects a total of 19,164 engines in Subaru BRZ coupes and Subaru XV Crosstrek crossovers from 2013, and Imprezas from model years 2012 through 2014. Dealers will replace the valve springs in affected cars.
