Laramie project still needed

-

It was 20 years ago that Matthew Shepard, a university student in Wyoming, was beaten and left for dead in a field. A group of artists went to Laramie, Wyo., to create a theatre piece examining the attitudes toward the LGBT community.

The Nose Creek Players are presenting the work this weekend in the Bert Church Theatre, and it couldn’t be more timely for Alberta. On Saturday, Airdrie Pride will host a panel discussion ahead of the matinee talking about the challenges faced by LGBT youth. With some schools fighting GSA’s and some politicians thinking it’s OK to malign our gay community, it’s clear we still need a dialogue.
