COALHURST Impaired driving charges have been laid against a Lethbridge resident nearly five months after a fatal two-vehicle collision.

The crash happened on Highway 3 near Coalhurst on June 25 when RCMP say a Toyota Corolla heading east in the westbound lanes collided with a Chevrolet Impala.

The driver of the second vehicle — a 42-year-old man from the Piikani Nation — died en route to hospital, while a 12-year-old girl in the same auto was taken for treatment of trauma and minor back injuries.

The Corolla driver was not seriously injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Douglas Bagnall, 62, was arrested Nov. 18 on charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams causing death.

Bagnall has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge court Nov. 27.
