Woman airlifted to hospital following crash in Cochrane

One woman was airlifted to hospital a following a two-vehicle, headon collision along Highway 1A in Cochrane on Thursday morning.

EMS said they responded to the scene of the crash just before 9 a.m.

Police said the incident happened near Gleneagles Drive, when a westbound driver swerved into oncoming traffic and struck an eastbound sedan head-on while attempting to avoid a separate threevehic­le rear-end collision.

The occupant of the eastbound vehicle was taken to hospital in serious condition, RCMP said in a statement Thursday, while no one else needed to be sent to hospital. STARS Air Ambulance said earlier it transferre­d one woman to Foothills Hospital in serious condition.

Highway 1A reopened Thursday afternoon.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to go to the Cochrane RCMP detachment to provide a statement.
