Mounties in Chestermere arrested a 30-year-old man from Lethbridge after reports of an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP were called to the parking lot of a local restaurant around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, after reports that a man had “brandished” a firearm.

RCMP later located a vehicle, described as a grey sedan, that was linked to the suspect.

As police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled at high speed eastbound on Highway 1.

He then changed directions westbound by crossing the median, and once again eastbound on Highway 1.

The driver eventually stopped and was taken into custody without incident.

The Lethbridge man remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing on multiple charges.

There were no injuries resulting from the incident, nor property damaged.

Police did not release the suspect’s name.
