We’re not causing the plastic problem
The recent war on plastic, in particular plastic straws, is illustrative of a number of problems with the media and the ability of people to have time to think and absorb what is presented to them.
Studies show that up to 95 per cent of plastic in the oceans, and plastic pollution generally, is due to non-western nations.
Of the western nations, what possible percentage of this could be contributed by Canada? And Canadian straws?
Remember when switching from plastic to paper grocery bags was actually more environmentally detrimental than using plastic? The resources would be better allocated to educating the populous regions that are the source of the problem.
Similar to economic selfflagellation Canada subjects itself by imposing carbon taxes, shutting coal plants, and oilsands production, while the rest of the populous Third World carries on unhindered by misplaced guilt. Tim Larkin, Calgary
