Shaw service disruptions roll into second day
Some Shaw customers in Calgary were without phone, cable or internet service again on Friday as widespread outages continued for the second day in a row.
The company said technicians were working on a fix to the problem as of 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and “worked overnight” on repairs.
The outages continued well into Friday, with Shaw saying workers were “coming close to a complete resolution” around 1:30 p.m., adding service was “largely restored” around 3:15 p.m.
On its community support page, the company said the outage was due to a “severed fibre connection to our network infrastructure.”
Shaw said customers impacted by the disruptions should contact the company with their customer account number to have a credit “applied accordingly for the time the service is affected.”
“Some customers in southern Calgary may be experiencing an interruption to internet, cable television and home phone services,” the company said on its website.
“We are working to restore service as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Some customers took to Twitter to ask Shaw for updates, saying they had been without service for several hours.
Other customers hoping to take advantage of Black Friday deals were frustrated the outage was keeping them from shopping online.
Services in Red Deer’s Parkvale community were also down for many customers on Friday, but Shaw said full service was restored around 12:15 p.m.
Shaw is asking any customers still experiencing outages to visit the community support page at www.shaw.ca for updates.
