IMAGINE sHOE ON ONtArIO’s FOOt

Re: Albertans understand GM workers’ pain, Opinion, Nov. 27

Expanding on Don Braid’s excellent column, imagine the following scenarios:

The federal government passes a bill that prevents the construction of a new or reused auto plant anywhere in Ontario (similar to the effect of the oil tanker ban in Bill C-48);

Then, if somehow an automaker is able to pass this hurdle by moving the plant to another province, the federal government imposes new, qualitative and impossibleto-meet approval conditions for the new plant (similar to the effect of Bill C-69, which destroys the NEB, a regulator that is “respected internationally” and which “has placed Canada among the most stringent of regulatory regimes” according to the government’s 2017 Expert Review Panel.)

These bills, the roadblocks to any chance of hope and recovery for Alberta, must be killed by the Senate. Our elected senator, Douglas Black, is a strong voice for Alberta in this fight.
