LOMBERG EAGER TO PLEASE FLAMES COACHING STAFF

-

Bill Peters doesn’t know a lot about Ryan Lomberg.

But the Calgary Flames head coach knows the 23-year-old spark plug is eager, particularly during the team’s practices.

“He doesn’t even know the drills, but he’s first in line,” said Peters with a chuckle. “He wants to go. He wants to make an impression, right? The guys are nice enough to let him go first all the time, too.”

The left-winger from Richmond Hill, Ont., made his NHL debut last season and drew into seven games with the Flames during a stretch from late January to mid-February.

With only 12 forwards present at the team’s practice Thursday, there’s a good chance that Lomberg could translate some of that enthusiasm into Friday’s clash against the Los Angeles Kings.

Lomberg, recalled Nov. 23 in the wake of Michael Frolik’s lower-body injury, was in Dillon Dube’s spot on the Flames’ fourth line with Mark Jankowski and Garnet Hathaway.

While Peters indicated the Flames would be recalling a forward from the American Hockey League to arrive in time for Friday’s game, it’s clear he likes what Lomberg is about.

“He’s a great kid, plays with lots of energy,” Peters said.
