CWHL’S Inferno to host Thunder

-

The Calgary Inferno are set to host the Markham Thunder this weekend when the teams will face off for the first time this Canadian Women’s Hockey League season. They’ll play Saturday at Max Bell Centre (5 p.m., Sportsnet 960 The Fan) and Sunday at Cochrane Arena (1 p.m.) A pair of wins last weekend against Montreal’s Les Canadiennes earned the Inferno first place in the CWHL, advancing their win streak to eight straight games. “We’re starting to click as a team and our units are playing well together and everyone has a team-first attitude and it’s pushing us forward,” said Inferno forward Blayre Turnbull. “We’re taking it game by game and weekend by weekend and we’re expecting to play with the same intensity as last weekend.” The defending Clarkson Cup champion Thunder is in fourth place with six wins and five losses, two of which came in overtime, having played 11 games this season. The Thunder is coming off a split against the Toronto Furies, winning Saturday’s game 5-2 and losing in overtime Sunday. Both teams have players among the league leaders in points. The Inferno’s Rebecca Johnston sports 14 points and the Thunder’s Laura Stacey has 11 points.
