EDMONTON Crown and defence lawyers met in an Edmonton courtroom Monday to hash out details ahead of a trial for the man accused in a truck attack last year.

Details of the pretrial hearing for Abdulahi Hasan Sharif are covered by a publication ban.

Sharif is charged with a string of offences including five counts of attempted murder in connection with an attack on a police officer outside a football game on Sept. 30, 2017.

Police allege Sharif then used a U-Haul truck to strike pedestrians in downtown Edmonton while fleeing police. No one was killed in the incidents, which police initially referred to as “acts of terrorism.”

No terror-related charges have been laid.

The hearing, before Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Paul Belzil, lasted about 20 minutes and dealt with pre-trial issues.

Sharif did not appear at Wednesday’s hearing. His file will next be before the court on Jan. 3. The trial is scheduled for next October.
