Officer charged in domestic dispute

Charges have been laid against a Calgary police officer in relation to an off-duty domestic dispute six months ago.

On May 28, 2018, the constable, who was on leave for an unrelated matter, was involved in a domestic dispute in Airdrie. Afterward, he allegedly stole a service firearm from a secure locker in a district office.

Police were called by a friend concerned for his welfare.

On Friday, the man was charged

with break and enter, theft, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and breach of recognizan­ce. He was previously charged with fraud and assault.

The name of the accused was not released.
