PHILANTHROPY RUNS DEEP WITH FLAMES

-

Re: Privilege leads to purpose for Flames D-man and wife, Column, Dec. 7

Having the good fortune of getting to know several in the past and present Flames ownership, I can attest to they’re being great philanthropists, individually and collectively.

Sure, we’re always reminded that professional hockey is a business and it is, but certainly not just any business. Community service and philanthropy is clearly a cornerstone, not just of the Flames Foundation, but throughout the entire organization.

Kudos to Travis and Steph Hamonic for their heroic efforts at helping others.

But I’m sure that they would be the first to say that their generous giving of time and money to important community causes is not unique among Flames players, management and ownership. The Flames have always had incredible depth (although not always the on-ice depth we’re currently enjoying) and Calgary’s the better for it.
