High winds cause havoc on province’s highways

Mounties in southern Alberta issued a travel warning Thursday after numerous large vehicles were blown over by winds hitting 130 km/ h.

RCMP recommende­d against travel for large vehicles on Highways 2 and 22.

Earlier in the day, officers dealt with a semi blocking Highway 22 and Highway 2, closing the road for hours.

Environmen­t Canada issued wind warnings for Cardston-Fort Macleod, Crowsnest Pass-Waterton Lakes, Kananaskis-Canmore, Nordegg and Okotoks-High River-Claresholm.

Environmen­t Canada also issued snowfall warnings for Banff and Jasper National Parks. A total of 25 cm of snow is expected, with up to 40 cm on some parts of the Icefields Parkway.
