Can art really drive economy?

-

Re: Council’s arts investment will elevate the city, Opinion, Dec. 11

There seems to be a huge disconnect between the arts community and what the common person thinks is beneficial to our society.

To say that giving more public funding to the arts community will make Calgary better doesn’t add up.

To say that art is an economic driver is reaching, it is more like a lawn-mower engine in comparison to what Calgary really needs.

It is good to have diversity but public money should go to tax breaks, lower fees, infrastructure, schools.

A small amount of money should go to communities to enhance their neighbourhoods.

Let the public make the choice on what is “art.”
