Kudos for helping refugee children

-

My wife and I volunteered in 2017-2018 (through the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society) to help a Syrian refugee family settle in Calgary. Because the parents could speak almost no English, I also served as a liaison between the parents and the public schools three of their children began attending.

At both Wildwood Elementary and Battalion Park, I was continually impressed with how patient, loving, and conscientious the teachers and principals were towards these children who, because of their lack of English language skills and other factors, presented some very real teaching challenges.

Now my wife and I are helping to privately sponsor a refugee family from South Sudan that arrived in Canada less than a month ago. The family has two six-yearold boys who have started attending Acadia Elementary. Again, the teachers and principal have been patient, loving and conscientious.

Our sponsorship group is so impressed with how CBE employees are welcoming the influx of refugee and immigrant children. I have every reason to believe the Calgary Catholic School District is also doing a great job.
