Sexual misconduct MLAs still unnamed

EDMONTON Premier Rachel Notley repeated Thursday her government will not release the names of two sitting MLAs at the heart of sexual misconduct internal investigations.

With an election creeping evernearer, Notley was asked why she won’t name the two MLAs who may be running in the spring.

“There’s no question these things are complicated in politics,” she said.

“But … we have an independent process, someone who’s a professional investigator, who looked into it and made recommendations, and we followed those recommendations.”

Notley said she believes her party has made the correct choice.

The premier spoke with media at the Inter Pipeline’s Heartland Petrochemical Complex in Fort Saskatchewan Thursday morning to trumpet her government’s petrochemical diversification program.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR TOP HONOUR

Albertans are invited to nominate remarkable citizens, community leaders and innovators for membership in the Alberta Order of Excellence.

Up to 10 people will be inducted into the order this year in recognition of remarkable contributions to their community, the province and the nation.

Nominations must be received by Feb. 15 to be considered for investiture. Nominations received after that date, and Albertans not selected in 2019, may be held and considered for up to three years.

Nominees must be Canadian citizens residing in Alberta and, if selected, must be able to attend the investiture ceremony in October.
