Shires to lead new super trio

-

Country stars Brandi Carlile and Margo Price have formed a new super trio with Amanda Shires. The members of The Highwomen, who will record a debut album in March, came together in Nashville, Tenn., after Shires pitched the idea to Carlile at a concert. “We were at the Basement for some reason and I told her about this idea I had called The Highwomen,” she tells WFPK. “And she was like, ‘I love that idea.’ I was like, ‘I want you to be in it. And I want you to help me run this, because I’m terrible at business, and my voice isn’t as great as yours.’” The pair then invited Price to join. The trio has country, Americana and folk roots, but Shires insists The Highwomen — a tongue-in-cheek reference to Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson’s 1980s supergroup The Highwaymen, will be all country.
