Oak + Fort getting into beauty business

- ALEESHA HARRIS

Oak + Fort has made a name for itself in Canadian fashion thanks to its cool, minimalist-chic garments and accessories for men and women that come at an affordable price.

From its homegrown roots in Vancouver’s Gastown district, the retailer has expanded to include almost 20 stores across North America — and a growing online customer base of shoppers around the globe.

Now the company has expanded into the beauty business.

We chatted with Nicola Fuller, brand specialist for the home and beauty divisions, to learn more about the makeup line, why this was the right time to get into beauty and what’s next.

Q For those who aren’t familiar, what is Oak + Fort?

A Oak + Fort began in 2010 with an idea that fashion should be uncomplicated and thoughtfully designed. Adopting a minimal esthetic and luxury-inspired space, the evolution of our brand set its foundation. First opening our doors with a small boutique store in Vancouver in the heart of historic Gastown, we began our expansion over the next few years across Canada and into the U.S. With 19 stores across North America and two online platforms, we continue our growth with new locations each year.

Q You’ve recently launched a beauty line. What made this the right time to create one?

A Our approach to beauty is an effortless extension of our brand. We are continually pushing our boundaries in the hope of creating tomorrow’s classics. We decided to create the line at this time in response to our customers who were looking for beauty products that embody our esthetic, and complete their outfits.

Q Who is the curated collection of products for?

A Our line is intended to embrace diversity in our community. We hope that the line will speak to everyone, and that they will feel empowered to style each piece in their own unique way.

Q Where are the products made?

A Our products are developed and designed in Vancouver. They are made in Korea.

Q What is the price range for the new products?

A In an effort to achieve a collection that is attainable without sacrificing quality, we have arrived at prices that range from $9 to $28.

Q Lastly, what’s next?

A We are looking to collaborate with the community. Now that our products have been released, we can’t wait to use them in creative context. Our line itself will continue to grow with more beauty and wellness products slated for spring.
