Charge laid in connection to hit and run
RCMP have charged a Medicine Hat man in connection with the hit and run of a cyclist.
The incident happened July 8 around 9 p.m. along the Trans-canada Highway, just east of Medicine Hat. A male cyclist travelling westbound was struck and left on the side of the road until a driver noticed him and called 911.
The cyclist was airlifted to a Calgary hospital in life-threatening condition. His condition remains unchanged.
Redcliff RCMP later located and arrested a man in connection with the collision.
Daniel Leger, 34, is charged with failing to stop after an accident that resulted in bodily harm. The charge carries a potential fine of up to $1,000, imprisonment up to 14 years, or both.
Mounties executed a search warrant earlier this week in Medicine Hat to seize the suspected vehicle, a 2005 Black GMC Sierra pickup truck.
Leger is scheduled to appear in a Medicine Hat court on Aug. 7.
