2020 Polestar 2 ups its performance

- ALEX REID

Volvo spinoff Polestar is just getting started when it comes to super-performance EVS. With the Polestar 1 making big waves in the industry, many can’t wait to see more models from the new EV brand, such as the Polestar 2, a raised-up sedan more suited to everyday driving.

We’ve just found out the car’s going to get a little more exciting, thanks to the introduction of a performance package.

Autoblog first learned of the performance package when Ohlins, the suspension parts supplier, announced it would be supplying adjustable shocks for the so-called Polestar 2 Performance Package.

Also in the package are Brembo brakes, sticky tires, forged wheels and fancy trim pieces, such as yellow seatbelts and other goodies like you would find in the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered.

We still don’t know how big the brakes or the tires will be, or the make of the tires. We also don’t know what the price of the performance pack will be, but a representative said it would be about US$5,000 more than the launch edition price, which is about $69,000 in Canada. After the launch edition, there will be a base model with less range, and we’re assuming fewer options as well.

The standard Polestar 2 produces 408 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque from its electric power plant. The power goes to all four wheels, which helps it get to 100 km/h in under 5.0 seconds. The 79-kwh battery pack will take you 440 kilometres per charge.

The Polestar 2 will arrive sometime in the summer of 2020.
