World chuckwagon finals wraps up with five-day event at Century Downs

A dozen drivers are in contention for the world chuckwagon title.

Century Downs Racetrack & Casino presents the World Profession­al Chuckwagon Associatio­n World Finals beginning Wednesday and running through Sunday.

The five-day championsh­ip event will feature the world’s première chuckwagon drivers, outriders and horses competing for one of the richest prize money payouts in the sport including over $100,000 on Championsh­ip Sunday at the Calgary race track.

The 12 drivers who have now officially qualified for the Century Downs Winner’s Zone Playoff Round include Vern Nolin, Kurt Bensmiller, Logan Gorst, Codey Mccurrach, Kirk Sutherland, Mark Sutherland, Luke Tournier, Cody Ridsdale, Ross Knight, Chanse Vigen, Layne Macgillivr­ay and Jordie Fike.

Jason Glass ended up in the crying hole, just 9.5 points behind Fike.

These 12 pilots have now qualified for the four-day playoff round at Century Downs.

The top four drivers with the most points after the four-day playoff round will advance to the Century Downs Winners’ Zone Year End Championsh­ip Dash, which takes place Sunday.

A $35,000 horse trailer from Desert Trailer Sales and $50,000 cash will be awarded after the final race.

Nolin currently tops the world standings with 1,172.5 points.

In second is Bensmiller with 1,131.5. And Gorst is in third place with 1,069 points. Only one other outfit, the one piloted by Mccurrach, is above 1,000 points. Mccurrach has 1,010.
