Final condo in 14-year project being built

- MARTY HOPE

Brookfield Residential this week toasted the groundbreaking for its third and final condo building in its last project 14 years after officially kicking off construction of its master-planned community of Auburn Bay.

The multi-family project of Regatta is a collection of affordable condos and townhomes with a varied selection of floor plans that appeal to a broad range of buyers, says Ryan Moon, Brookfield’s director of multi-family housing.

Plans for the development include three condo buildings — two of which are completed — and nine blocks of townhomes. To date, one block has been sold out, two completed, one under construction, and five released for sale. Estimated completion for all of this is mid-2021.

The condo product is made up of floor plans measuring from 552 to more than 1,028 square feet and come with oversized kitchens, balconies and new style collections to choose from. The townhomes, with private front entrances, attached garage and impressive interior finishes range in size from 1,200 to 1,600 square feet and come with a choice of two- or three-bedroom models.

The reason for the groundbreaking celebration was twofold.

“We wanted to celebrate our final project after 14 years in this community, and we wanted to bring the staff, partners and homeowners of the final building together to celebrate and to sign an iconic oar that will hang in the project to leave a lasting memory,” Moon said.

Auburn Bay has been a successful development for Brookfield.

“When we launched this community in 2005, we had a vision of bringing it together through play and connectivity,” says Moon, of the four-season playground and the 7,000-square-foot Auburn House on the shores of the 17-hectare lake just down from the five-hectare private park. “Now, 14 years later and through the efforts of the homeowners association, this vision is alive and well.”

Auburn Bay covers about 365 hectares of southeast Calgary land, and when completed, an estimated 22,000 people will be living there. When compared with other communities by Brookfield it’s smaller than Cranston and Livingston but larger than Seton and New Brighton, according to company figures.

Another appealing element to living in Regatta or Auburn Bay is the ease of access to retail and service amenities, schools, the South Health Campus, and the YMCA, says Moon.

“Being able to match the community’s charming cottage-country experience with the unique Seton Urban District experience is exciting for residents,” he says.
