Blending in, standing out

-

The utility trend has been picking up steam for a little while now, and this season it’s hitting fever pitch thanks to the resurgence of camouflage print. Sure, to an extent, camo is always lingering in the background, but this season it’s on everything from trousers to bomber jackets to tote bags and more. Most renditions take the traditional colour combination, but don’t be surprised if you start seeing it in more colourful varieties in upcoming seasons. Rebecca Tay presents five classic camo print pieces. POWER PUFF GIRL

The Super Puff goose-down puffer jacket by TNA is already a major hit thanks to its practicality — it’s engineered to keep you warm in -30 C — and being seen on gals like Kendall Jenner last year. This season, it comes in a new Shorty version and a bevy of new shades and prints — including camo, which is obviously our fave — and looks great worn open or closed with high-waisted pants and a sexy top.

SAVE IT FOR A RAINY DAY

With fall comes rain. If you already own a bright yellow raincoat, a Burberry trench and potentially another couple of water-repellent options, consider this Canada Goose poncho. It’s chic, slightly sporty, and seriously on-trend — all in one fell swoop.

FANCY PANTS

If you consider yourself a purist, chances are you think that camouflage print is best presented on cargo pants or a utility jacket. You’re in luck. Both are easily found this season, so it’s just a matter of finding a little detail to love. The tapered silhouette of this pair is a nice detail; we’re also really into the fact that they’re made from 50-per-cent ecologically grown cotton.

GET SHORTY

Shorts for fall? Get real, you say. But pair these mid-length ones with thick tights, boots and a super-soft cashmere sweater and you can see how it can work. For now (and as long as you can still get away with bare legs), we love the idea of teaming them with fancy flats in contrasting-yet-also-classic leopard print.

YOU USED TO CALL ME

Is there anything that streetwear label Off-white can’t make cool? Virgil Abloh’s penchant for labelling things exactly as they are, and always in quotation marks, has been extended to this iphone XS Max case. Love or leave his approach, you can’t deny it’s (still) making waves among the cool-kid set.
