SIZE SOMETIMES MATTERS

Sovanna perfect for growing families

- MARTY HOPE

Size matters, especially when shopping the new home market for a growing family, an extended family, or with plans to begin a family.

Everybody is going to need their own space, yet there also has to be room for those family gatherings.

At 2,307 square feet, the Sovanna model by Shane Homes designed for the Anthem United community of Belmont in southwest Calgary checks all the size boxes, plus the fact it has good looks and customization options to up the appeal. In short, it has plenty of wow. Open the front door and you walk smack into a lifestyle room which, in this case, is finished as a library complete with shelves and a pair of ladders to get to the top of the stacks.

“The library area being open, people just love it,” says Shane’s Belmont area manager Erin Jorgensen. “It opens up the whole house.”

Like the rest of the main-floor living area, the foyer has an engineered hardwood floor. Off the foyer is the half-bath and beyond that is the mudroom with closet and storage bench.

Taking up the back half of the main floor is the impressive trio of kitchen, living room, and dining nook. The focal point of the living room is the tile-faced corner fireplace with wraparound mantel, and a large window to the rear yard. The nook has enough space for a family sit-down meal, and also has windows to the rear.

“The kitchen is gorgeous. We’ve had people take the island design and put it into another of our models,” says Jorgensen. In the Sovanna, the island has a quartz top with doors and drawers on two sides, large prep and presentation area, and holds the dishwasher.

As well, the stylish and workable L-shaped kitchen comes with quartz countertops, mosaic backsplashes, loads of cupboards — some with glass inserts, stainless steel, built-in appliances that include a cooktop set into separate counterspace, and a corner pantry.

The glass-panelled banister leading to the second floor opens onto a large family room set into the middle of the layout and separating the master bedroom from two smaller ones.

An adjoining loft has been designed as an IT area with desk and electrical outlets. Next to the loft is the tiled laundry area with sideby-side washer and dryer and open and closed shelving. Next to that is the main bath with tub/shower.

Across the front of the home are two smaller bedrooms, each with their own walk-in closets.

The rear portion of the second floor is the master suite area, with a carpeted bedroom and huge dressing room. The ensuite is tiled, and is shown with a corner tub, glassedin stall shower, and double vanity with a makeup area.

“The whole home has been well received. Even those who are buying a different model from us are using the Sovanna as inspiration for their own design and layout,” says Jorgensen.
