June 27, 1934 - Glace Bay, Nova Scotia October 8, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta

Denise, beloved sister and life companion of Joan, was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, on June 27, 1934. She died peacefully, aged 85, at Rockyview General Hospital on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 in the tender care of her sister and the supportive hospital staff. Denise was the daughter of Ian and Estelle (nee Boucher) Macleod. She spent most of her early days charming all who knew her as a child in Glace Bay. Denise taught for many years at St. Francis High School. After retiring Denise ran a successful art framing business from their idyllic acreage northwest of Calgary. She was a kaleidoscopic person, gifted in many ways: a brilliant teacher, a sparkling verbal wit, a poet, writer, phenomenal reader, musician, sailor, adventurer, traveler, swimmer, hiker and always a generous and faithful friend to all who knew her. Denise, with Joan by her side, lived a joyous and adventurous journey full of life. Denise was predeceased by her parents and by her brother, Ian (Anne) Macleod. She will be dearly missed by her beloved and dedicated nieces, Sandy (Paul) and Beth (Emmet); her nephews, Ian (Jo-anne), David (Donna) and Duncan (Cheryl), and their children. Denise will also be missed by her devoted and generous neighbours and friends. A private family service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Margarita, Srie and Harwariat for their years of gentle care. A tree will be planted in living memory of Denise Macleod.
