Toshi passed away peacefully on October 24, 2019 at the age of 72 years. She was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Sueji and Kimiyo Furukawa and grew up in Iron Springs, Alberta. She went to high school at Picture Butte and trained as a Registered Nurse at Saint Michaels Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta. After graduation in 1968 she moved to Calgary where she worked at the Holy Cross Hospital. She traveled to Europe for an adventure with friends from nursing school and after returning to Calgary, she worked at the Calgary General Hospital. She met and married Fred Mitchell on November 6, 1971 and subsequently had their son, Jeffery, in 1974 and daughter, Shawna, in 1976. After being a stay at home mother for a few years Toshi returned to work at the Calgary General Hospital. Later, she worked at Peter Lougheed Centre. She worked until her retirement in 2007. Toshi and Fred enjoyed camping in their RV and went on several trips to various countries. Toshi is survived by her husband Fred, son Jeffery (Angela), Hayden, Harrison, daughter Shawna (Christopher) Cole, and Ella. Toshi was diagnosed with later stage liver disease three years ago. It progressed slowly at first, but very rapidly in the last few months. She died at the Chinook Hospice where she was cared for in her last 13 days. We would like to thank the staff at the hospice who all gave very loving care to our Toshi. Toshi requested that no funeral service be conducted. She is to be interred with her mother in Lethbridge. Toshi was a devoted sister, wife, mother, nurse, and friend and will be missed by all of us. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Toshi’s family through www.evanjstrong.com.
