Rev. Dennis Mcdonald of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the age of 80 years.

Born on September 22, 1939 in Calgary, AB. Fr. Wale, Cssr, arranged for Dennis’ adoption. Three months later Sylvester and Molly Mcdonald welcomed him into their home at 2105 2nd Street. His newly acquired siblings, Jake, Hudie, Agnes, Mary, Sam and Tooser were stationed on the porch as his official welcoming committee. With the passing of years, he was also singularly blessed by a whole new group of nieces and nephews which he also considered his siblings, Michael (Jeanne) Dean, Michael (Frances), Maureen, Pat, Terry, Tim (Carolyn), Mary-lou (Clem) Mcdonald, Molly Jo (Austin) Moran, Kitty Rae (Art) Raffa and Jim (Sam) Payne. Dennis was most grateful to the teachers for their dedication and commitment while he attended the Ursuline Sister of Holy Angels School - bit of a misnomer, The Basilian Fathers of St. Mary’s High School and the University of Saskatchew­an, the Jesuit Fathers of University of San Francisco. He deeply cherished the witness of faith of the Faithful Companions of Jesus, the Sisters of Charity of St. Louise, the Precious Blood Sisters and the Sisters of St. Martha. Rev. Dennis was ordained on May 1, 1965 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. He attended Holy Angels School, St. Mary’s Boy’s High School, University of Saskatchew­an, St. Joseph’s Seminary and the University of San Francisco and Regis College in Toronto. He served at St. Anthony’s in Drumheller, AB, St. James in Calgary, AB, Canadian Martyrs of Calgary, AB, Holy Trinity Parish of Crowsnest Pass, AB, Office of Religious Education at Diocese of Calgary, St. Michael’s in Pincher Creek, AB, Corpus Christi in Calgary, St. Martha’s in Lethbridge.

Rev. Mcdonald was predecease­d by his parents, Sylvester and Molly Mcdonald; his brothers and sisters, John James, Mary Ramona, Mary Agnes, Thomas Hugh, Sylvester Anthony, Mary Lillian and John William (in infancy); and his nephew Timothy Mcdonald.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 - 18th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be concelebra­ted at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 - 18th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
