Ter­relle Pryor and his girl­friend were charged af­ter the former NFL player was stabbed in an in­ci­dent that left Pryor hos­pi­tal­ized. Pittsburgh po­lice de­scribed the pair as “mu­tual com­bat­ants.”

Pryor was charged with sim­ple as­sault. His agent, Gre­gory Di­u­lus, told ESPN he is ex­pected to re­cover from wounds to his chest and shoul­der. Sha­laya Bris­ton, 24, was charged with crim­i­nal at­tempted homi­cide and ag­gra­vated as­sault. Pryor, a 30-year-old Penn­syl­va­nia na­tive, is a free agent who spent parts of seven sea­sons with five NFL teams. The two, who had been dat­ing for about a year, were in what wit­nesses called a “volatile” re­la­tion­ship, ac­cord­ing to the Post-gazette.

Pryor was a 2011 draft pick by the Oak­land Raiders. His great­est suc­cess came as a re­ceiver with the Cleve­land Browns.
