Christmas comes early for families in need
Hundreds of disadvantaged children and their families enjoyed the true meaning of Christmas Nov. 30 by attending Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol. The iconic Dickens’ classic reminds us all that the spirit of generosity and kindness should never be forgotten.
The special benefit performance raised funds for three invaluable organizations as well — Project Warmth Society of Alberta, Alberta Champions Society in Recognition of Community Enrichment, and Operation Kickstart Society of Alberta.
Gala chair and board chair of the three charities Gordon Hoffman welcomed guests and thanked the scores of donors and sponsors for their support. Other highlights included terrific silent auction items and mounds of free candy and Christmas goodies. The evening would not have been possible were it not for the tireless efforts of Hoffman and his wife, Eva, as well as support from Diane and Ben Docktor, Platinum Grover Int. Inc., Aurora Construction Group, Fidelis Management, Hoffman Dorchik, Strategic Group and Renoir Management, to name but a few.
Dignitaries in attendance this night included MPS Bob Benzen, Ron Liepert, Stephanie Kusie and Glen Weber; MLAS Mike Ellis and Richard Gotfried; councillors Peter Demong, Shane Keating, Jim Stevenson and Gian-carlo Carra; Chief
Roy Whitney; For the Love of Children Society chair Ashid
Bahl; Owen Hart Foundation chair Martha Hart; Backdoor Doorway chair Marilyn Dyck; J. J. Hoffman; cantor Russell Jayne; Foothills Academy’s Simon Williams and Karen Mcmillan; City of Calgary Fire Department deputy chief Joe Zatylny; Renoir Management’s Tim and Cindy Down; and others pictured.
