Former PMS discuss Canada’s future
The timing could not have been better. It was a mere 10 days after the federal election that former prime ministers Jean Chretien and Stephen Harper were at the Hyatt to discuss the future of Canada, our position on the global stage and our relationship with the United States. There was not an empty seat to be had at the luncheon hosted by the O’brien Institute for Public Health. And there could not have been a better moderator than University of Calgary Chancellor Deborah Yedlin, a self-professed political junkie.
Who was not in attendance would make a much shorter list as seemingly half the city attended, including: David and Gail O’brien, naming patrons, O’brien Institute for Public Health; Dr. William Ghali, scientific director, O’brien Institute for Public Health; Mayor Naheed Nenshi; Jon Meddings, dean, Cumming School of Medicine; Todd Hirsch, vice-president and chief economist at ATB Financial, the signature sponsor of O’brien Institute Signature Event; Nuvyn Peters, vice-president of advancement at University of Calgary; my terrific host, Lauchlan Currie, CEO ARC Financial Corp.; Perpetual Energy CEO Susan Riddell Rose;
U of C Faculty of Science dean
Dr. Lesley Riggs; Mac Van Wielingen, founder and partner at ARC Financial Corp.; Col. Michael Vernon, Commander 41 Canadian Brigade; Ray Robitaille; Pat Carlson, CEO of Kiwetinohk Resources Corp.; philanthropist and community leader Ann Mccaig; Werklund Foundation’s David Werklund; and event producer, The Event Group’s Dave Howard.
