Lack of grazing hits top cheeses

Global warming is affecting how much fresh local grass cows eat in France. Producers often can’t meet appellatio­n rules that limit the amount of dry hay livestock can consume, so they’ve asked authoritie­s to relax conditions for some cheeses. By July, farmers in Auvergne had not seen rain for nine months and had to dip into their hay stocks.
