We like to hope that we prevented a violent crime from occurring later that evening.

EDMONTON Four people are facing 80 weapons-related charges after a vehicle stop conducted by the Edmonton Police Service’s Gang Suppression Team.

On Friday, at about 8:45 p.m., GST members conducted a traffic stop involving a 2016 Dodge Caravan in the Callingwood area in the city’s southwest.

Const. Steven Poole said police conducted the traffic stop after they received public tips that criminal activity was taking place in the area.

Police discovered two loaded sawed-off shotguns, one sawed-off .22-calibre rifle and more than 10 grams of cocaine in the van. Poole said the people inside the van were known to police and the vehicle was not stolen.

“Three loaded firearms were located inside the vehicle so we like to hope that we prevented a violent crime from occurring later that evening,” said Poole.

The four people inside the vehicle were arrested and taken into custody without resistance.

Poole said all four people are associated with a larger gang, but due to police policy they would not be naming the criminal organization.

“I prefer not to comment on the actual gang names to avoid publicity for their gang. However, there are gangs with names, without names, within the city of Edmonton,” said Poole.

Krystal Mildred L’hirondelle, 35, Terris Gordon Cardinal, 30, Clifford Johnathan Gladue, 30, and Joshua Russell Gauthier, 21, are facing close to 80 gun and drug-related charges.

Cardinal, Gladue and Gauthier are facing two breach of firearms probation charges.

L’hirondelle is also facing traffic safety and Gaming and Liquor Act charges.
