TEXAS TEEN SUSPENDED OVER LONG HAIR
Deandre Arnold, 18, has refused to cut his dreadlocks even though his school said he would be suspended until he changes his mind.
The school dress code bars long hair for boys, even if it’s tied up during the school day. Arnold has been growing his dreads since Grade 7 to honour his father’s roots in Trinidad.
He made it on to the Ellen Degeneres Show, where he said he has been given two options if he won’t cut his hair: in-school suspension or alternative school, a campus for students with behavioural problems.
Degeneres surprised Arnold, who hopes to become a veterinarian, with a $20,000 scholarship.
