TEEN GIRL IN HIDING AS ‘ANTI-ISLAM CHAT’ SPARKS FIERCE DEBATE

-

A teen forced into hiding for criticizing Islam was at the heart of a secularism debate Thursday stirred by comments by France’s justice minister. The row erupted after Mila, 16, from Lyon got into a heated exchange on Instagram chat that ended in death threats. The exchange took a religious bent, with some reportedly accusing her of insulting “our God Allah.” Nicole Belloubet, the justice minister, condemned the attacks, but political rivals challenged the assertion her anti-religion comments breached “freedom of conscience.”
