DALI ‘CLOCKS’ STOLEN FROM SWEDISH ART GALLERY

-

Art thieves smashed their way into a Swedish art gallery early Thursday, snatching 10 bronze sculptures and drawings by Salvador Dali, the Spanish surrealist. The gang shattered the glass doors to Galleri Couleur in the upmarket Stockholm district of Ostermalm at 4 a.m., immediately triggering the alarm. But the thieves sped away in a getaway car before police arrived on the scene. “The police say it

seemed well-planned. They were pretty good at what they were doing,” Peder Engstrom, Couleur’s owner, said. “I feel awful, of course. What else is there to feel? It was a wonderful exhibition of Salvador Dali.” Engstrom said the 50 centimetre high sculptures were each worth between US$34,500 and $86,500. At least two of the sculptures stolen featured Dali’s melting clock.
