Activists protest Polanski nods

-

Feminists and others are protesting the César Awards, the French equivalent of the Oscars, after Roman Polanski’s newest movie received 12 nominations, The Guardian reports. An Officer and a Spy, which follows 19th-century Jewish French army officer Alfred Dreyfus, is up for best film and best director, among other nods. “Twelve is also the number of women today who accuse Roman Polanski of rape,” Dare to Be Feminist spokeswoman Celine Piques told French TV network LCI. Polanski pleaded guilty in the U.S. in 1977 to raping a 13-year-old girl, but fled to France in 1978 to avoid sentencing.
