Huey Lewis battles deafness

Huey Lewis is nearly deaf due to a combination of performing and Meniere’s disease, a chronic disorder of the inner ear, The Associated Press reports. Diagnosed in 2018, Lewis suffers fluctuating hearing ability, vertigo and tinnitus. “Usually it’s only bad for a week,” Lewis said. “But, I mean, really bad, where I’m almost deaf.” He had to cancel concerts in 2018 or risk losing his hearing altogether. Lewis is still able to record, however. Weather, the first album with his band The News in 19 years, is due out Feb. 14.
