LEXUS IMAGINES FAR-OUT VEHICLES FOR MOON TRAVEL
Special design portfolio consists of vehicles by designers meant for lunar mission
We always thought design of the Lexus grille gave off an out-ofthis-world vibe, but now the company is doubling down on the space motif with a series of vehicles designed for a lunar mission.
The project was done for art and fashion magazine Document Journal, which chose Lexus as one of the contributors to its
Lunar Design Portfolio. Seven vehicles were dreamt up by Lexus designers, each with its own unique characteristics and defining features.
Let’s start with Zero Gravity, by Karl Duhardin. He imagines a jet-ski style spacecraft, with the classic Lexus “spindle” grille envisioned as a 3-D backbone for the vehicle. The Lexus Cosmos by Jean-baptise Henry takes things off-world, with a Moon
Explorator as well as a Mothership that could enable travel throughout the solar system.
Julien Marie designed a terrestrial cruiser in the form of the Bouncing Moon Roller, a craft with a thin balloon membrane that can travel over any surface.
The Lexus Lunar Cruiser by Keisuke Matsuno looks most like the LF-30 concept, a moon car with directional wheels that can fly like a drone.
Taking the spindle grille to the next level is Yung Presciutti, who imagines the design with a “liquid side body” that “can reflect the universe.”
Yung also imagines a moon racer, for those who want to “enjoy the effects of lower gravity.”
And last but not least, we’ve another from Yung, a more typical moon cruiser — if that makes sense — with six wheels and a removable living area.
Of course, none of these vehicles will actually be built — at least, not in the near future.
