Hennessey Venom F5 aiming for 311 mph
The Hennessey Venom F5 will make its debut at The Quail 2020 in August, with impressive figures that should give Bugatti a run for its money, the company told Motor Authority. Now we’re getting our first look at some of the production-ready pieces, starting with the carbon-fibre tub.
The tub is what everything will be bolted onto. It weighs a scant 190 pounds, contributing to the
F5’s power-to-weight ratio.
The tub can handle 38,353 pound-foot of torque per degree, which will be needed when it’s hooked up to that 6.6-litre twin-turbo V-8.
Hennessey’s goal is to get the vehicle to 311 mph (500 km/h), which would eclipse the record set by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. According to its engineers, the F5 won’t need all 1,817 horsepower to do it, just 1,520 thanks to a planned drag coefficient of 0.33.
These upgrades mean the original price of US$1.6 million has been raised to US$1.8 million, and Hennessey says the price will likely go up again when the vehicle is revealed. Production is about six months behind schedule, but the company says it hopes to be able to get the car together in time for the planned debut.
The first three Venom F5s are currently in production, while the brand plans for the first four vehicles to be delivered in 2020.
Eight to 10 more will be completed in 2021. Only 24 will be built (12 for the U.S. and 12 for international customers). Thirteen have already been pre-sold.
