HALL OF FAME ADDS MITCHELL

- Colin Mcclelland

Kim Mitchell, the platinum-selling solo artist who co-founded rockers Max Webster, is being named to the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. The ceremony is to be held May 21. “There is no one who sounds like him or can emulate the energy and live performance he gives to his audience,” hall executive director Vanessa Thomas said. “And offstage, he is just as prolific as a songwriter and as an outspoken radio personality.” Max Webster found FM radio airplay in the 1970s with such songs as High Class in Borrowed Shoes, A Million Vacations and Paradise Skies.

Mitchell, shown, went solo in 1981, producing such hits as Patio Lanterns and Go For a Soda with longtime writing partner Pye Dubois. More recently Mitchell was a popular afternoon DJ on Toronto’s Q107 before leaving in 2014. A new record, The Big Fantasize, is due soon.
