COMING SOON TO A STAGE (OR LIVING ROOM) NEAR YOU

- LOUIS B. HOBSON

The new North American tour of The Simon & Garfunkel Story is stopping in Calgary at the Jubilee on Saturday as part of a 50-city tour that began in Idaho Falls in September.

The show, which originated in London in 2018, has several different versions currently touring in the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia as well as this North American tour which stars Andrew Wade as Paul Simon and George Clements as Art Garfunkel.

Using a live band, video projections, photos and original film footage, this musical biography details the folk-rock duo from their beginnings as Tom & Jerry, to their incredible success as one of the bestselling groups of the 1960s, to their dramatic split in 1970. The show culminates with their famous Concert In Central Park reunion in 1981.

Tickets for the Calgary performance range from $57 to $82, but there are only a limited number remaining. For available seating check out ticketmaster.ca.

BURNT THICKET IS OFFERING AN EVENING OF INTIMATE THEATRE

Burnt Thicket Theatre, which brought such shows as She Has a Name and We Are The Body to Calgary, has created a new show called My Little Plastic Jesus, which took Saskatoon by storm last year.

What makes Plastic Jesus such a unique experience is that it is performed in people’s living rooms. It sold out its entire run in Saskatoon in record time.

Created and performed by Saskatchewan actor and writer Tim Bratton, My Little Plastic Jesus is his coming of age story in an evangelical home and culture.

“We all have baggage. Mine just has a ‘honk if you love

Jesus’ bumper sticker on it” says Bratton.

“Plastic Jesus grapples with the universal need to negotiate the complex cultural legacies we inherit from our parents, families and communities.”

He says his show is “part confession, part history lesson and part multimedia extravaganza, and surprisingly funny and poignant.”

Burnt Thicket is touring the show to Regina, Rosebud, Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton.

The March 11 show in Calgary is in Marda Loop and in Kensington on March 12. Performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and guests will be welcomed starting at 7 p.m. All tickets are $20. Check out burntthicket.com for living room locations, more information and to reserve tickets.
